One thing is for sure, no one went home hungry last Sunday from the 25th Annual Taste of Troy. This fundraiser was definitely a successful 25th Anniversary TasteFest based on the mouth-watering food prepared by Troy’s finest restaurants and food establishments and their decorative display booths.
The long lines in front of restaurants proved the large crowd of those who support our kids were enjoying this annual food-tasting event when offered delicious samplings from 30 area. They also enjoyed meeting emcee and popular WDIV Channel 4 Meteorologist Andrew Humphrey, and Detroit Lions #20 Billy Sims, who posed for literally dozens of pictures with fans.
When not sampling the tasty offerings, the crowd was busy bidding on plus fabulous live and silent auction items.
Participating restaurants were judged by a panel of food connoisseurs in the Critics’ Choice categories, and attendees voted for their favorites in the People’s Choice categories.
Top honors for Critics’ Choice:
- Best Appetizer/Soup/Salad – Picano’s Italian Grille (Arancini di Riso)
- Best Casual Entrée – Kona Grill (Tuna Poke Bowl) Best Entrée – Sy Thai (Black Bean Salmon)
- Best Dessert – Ingram’s Candies (Mini S’mores) Best Beverage – Tim Hortons (Classic Coffee)
- Best Display – Tim Hortons (25th Anniversary Themed Booth)

- Best Appetizer/Soup/Salad – Bonefish Grill (Ahi Tuna Sashimi)
- Best Casual Entrée – Smashburger (Sin City Burger)
- Entrée – Granite City Food & Brewery (Braised Short Ribs with Creamy Polenta)

- Best Display – McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood & Steaks (25th Anniversary Themed Booth)
A Special Recognition Award was presented to PNC Bank and Beaumont Children’s for their generous commitment as the 2017 Major Sponsors. Plaques for Milestone Awards were presented to Shield’s of Troy, 25 years participating in Taste of Troy; Achatz Handmade Pie Co. and Ridley’s Bakery café for 15 years of participating in Taste of Troy.
“We want to thank everyone who helped make this year’s event such a huge success,” said Cindy Stewart, Taste of Troy Chairperson. “Our attendance was excellent, and early tallying indicates we did outstanding on the Live and Silent Auctions. Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy an afternoon of fun and great food while supporting a great cause.

For thirty-six years, Boys & Girls Club Troy has provided an exciting place for school-age youth. Now, able to accommodate over 1,200 members, the Club offers programs in the following core areas: character and leadership development, educational and career development, health and life skills, sports fitness and recreation, and the arts. The 17,800 square foot Jean & Sam Frankel Family Boys & Girls Club of Troy features a teen room, learning resource center, computer technology center, art design center, games room, multi-purpose room and state-of-the-art gymnasium.
The Club’s trained staff provides after-school programs in a safe environment designed to promote learning and growth. Over 400 members enroll in the ten-week summer program, ensuring that children have a positive place when school is not in session. Local businesses and community organizations contribute scholarships for 70 Club members.
