Approval For Jenoptik Automotive Site Nears

German manufacturer Jenoptik Automotive moved a step closer to clearance for its new facility to be located on Hamlin Road between Crooks and Livernois.

The company’s site plan request was approved unanimously at a recent convening of the Rochester Hills Planning Commission.

It appeared to be a formality after Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett announced the deal for the property that the 145,000-square-foot office, engineering manufacturing and warehouse building will be developed on prior to a breakfast in late February held by the Rochester Regional Chamber of Commerce.

The sale earned the city over $2 million, and projects to bring in upwards of 400 jobs to the city when the second phase of the project is completed.

“We are thrilled to enter into a long-term partnership with an innovative industry leader like Jenoptik,” Barnett said. “The investment and more importantly, high-wage job opportunities for our residents is a major win for our community.”

According to a report submitted to the commission, Jenoptik also plans to construct another building on the neighboring 6.13 acres of the property in the future.

Rochester Hills City Council is expected to give the plan its final stamp of approval at its next meeting on April 11.

The company’s automotive division is just one of five overall within the parent company, based in the city of Jena, Germany. Founded in 1991, Jenoptik is present in over 80 countries and employs over 3,500 people. The company estimated annual sales figures of €670 million ($762.6 million) for 2015, up €90 million from the previous year.
