Two Troy elementary schools were placed on a soft lockdown Tuesday morning, March 12, after police received reports of the sound of gunshots.
According to Kerry Birmingham, Troy School District director of communications, police received two reports of what sounded like gunshots in the neighborhoods near the intersection of Wattles and Livernois Roads.
Both Leonard and Wattles Elementary were put on a soft lockdown, during which no one was allowed to leave or enter the buildings. Police called in an Oakland County Sheriff’s helicopter and spoke to nearby DTE construction crews, but found nothing suspicious in their investigation.
“It is possible that the noises heard were related to construction work, but investigators wanted to be sure,” Birmingham said in an email Tuesday morning.
The lockdown was lifted shortly before 10 a.m. and lasted less than 10 minutes in total.
