AFTER NEARLY FOUR DECADES of watching Troy’s growth, and growing pains, through pictures and print, Troy-Somerset Gazette’s founder and long-time publisher Claire Weber is taking a well-deserved retirement this month.
The Michigan native, University of Michigan graduate and former GM employee first came to Troy to visit the Somerset Collection. Intrigued by the city, she decided to use her English literature degree and take a new career path as a journalist.
For her years of service capturing the news of Troy’s business, residential and civic communities, Troy City Council last Monday presented Weber with a Proclamation of Appreciation for her service and commitment to the community. Pictured at the presentation are, l-r: Councilmembers Ethan Baker, Edna Abrahim, Ed Pennington, and Mayor Dane Slater; Troy-Somerset Gazette founder Claire Weber; Councilmembers David Hamilton, Ellen Hodorek and Dave Henderson.
The Gazette staff wishes Claire a retirement filled with wonderful new adventures.
