Currently, diners’ have more restaurant options than ever before. Today, menu choices are not the only criteria, ambience is a major factor in dining choices. That’s a primary reason for the popularity of the Maple Leaf Family Restaurant on Maple Road just west of Livernois.

This is a family-owned restaurant in the best sense of the word. The whole Gjetaj family is involved in the operation. Father, Mario and sons Eddie and Alban work in the kitchen. Mama, Rosa, is the hostess and personality of the Maple Leaf. She knows many of the regulars, and generously spreads the hugs around.

“She knows everyone by name,” says Eddie. “We exchange gifts with many of our customers.”

Though a welcoming neighborhood vibe is an important part of the Maple Leaf’s popularity, of course, the food is still a priority.

“We make everything from scratch,” mentions Eddie. “Soups, salads, desserts all come from our kitchen.

”Though the classics are always on the menu, our specials and feature items change with the season and fresh food availability. We’re getting into the salad season now.

“Our Maple Salad is the favorite: Fresh grilled chicken breast, crisp greens, sliced apple, pecans, Feta cheese, topped with dried cranberries and served with balsamic vinaigrette.”

It should be noted, The Maple Leaf Family Restaurant was prominently featured in last year’s “15forFifteen” documentary produced by the City of Troy.

In their five years in business, the Maple Leaf has earned considerable name recognition and now enjoys a regular catering clientele. They offer delivery with a $30 minimum order. And, while lunch is their busiest time, morning is also an ideal time to enjoy a breakfast meeting or a relaxed meal with a friend.

“The Hungry Man Breakfast is very popular. It features three eggs (any style) with hash browns or grits, one ham, two bacon, two sausage and toast.

“Our Omelettes are huge,” comments Eddie, and our $3.99 breakfast special is the best one around.”

Dinner favorites can be Italian classics, stir fry, maybe even Pork Chops. Maple Leaf’s affordable prices make dinner out an excellent option for very busy days.
