Leadership Troy Plans Final Dinner For Volunteers

Mark your calendars for the 50th Annual Troy Community Awards Banquet which will be held on November 7 at the San Marino Club in Troy. Because this is the Golden Anniversary, Leadership Troy will celebrate with a “Giving Back to the Community” theme highlighting past and present volunteers and businesses, which have enriched our community through dedication and support, says Leadership Troy President Jim Cyrulewski.

Started by the Troy Chamber of Commerce, the banquet was turned over to Leadership Troy in 1990 and has been supported by Choice Properties and A.J. Desmond Funeral Home since that time. The Leadership Troy organization has decided it’s either time for another group to step up and continue this tradition, or make this significant anniversary the last one which honors the year’s Distinguished Citizen and community organizations’ volunteers, as well as businesses that support the volunteer efforts in Troy.

“The 50th will definitely be Leadership Troy’s swan song,” Cyrulewski laments. “It’s been a great ride but it is time to turn over the banquet to people with fresh ideas.”

Leadership Troy is a non-profit consisting of representatives from various community organizations, local high schools, businesses, and individuals who exchange community information, promote community programs, and provide a venue to recognize volunteers and corporate citizens.

Over the years, Leadership Troy has helped to connect the community by championing other organizations, like the North Woodward Community Foundation; and by hosting a variety of public forums on topics that impact Troy residents. Leadership Troy’s website and Facebook page post community events to keep members involved and informed all year long.

Leadership Troy’s 50th and final banquet will showcase outstanding volunteers from community groups, honor a community-minded business with the Community Appreciation Award, and present the Distinguished Citizen of Troy award to a person whose depth and breadth of community service has made Troy a better place. The 2018 awardee will join previous Distinguished Citizens who have created a legacy of giving back to the community and truly make a difference in the lives of others.
