On April 26 around 2 p.m., the Shelby Township Police Communication Center was contacted by a woman from the 5300 block of Providence Drive. She stated that her boyfriend, a 35-year-old male, had a gun in his mouth and had fired a shot inside of the residence. Officers arrived on scene, secured the location, and made contact with the woman who called. At that time, officers heard three distinctive gunshots all within a very short time frame. The on-scene supervisor was able to make phone contact with the individual in question. Officers then called for backup from the Macomb County Sherriff’s Office, the Utica Police Department, and the Shelby Township Fire Department. After an hour of numerous attempts to have the suspect come out peacefully, the suspect threatened he was coming out to shoot police officers. Officers fired shots and the suspect was struck multiple times. Emergency medical aid was rendered and the suspect was transported to the hospital where he remains in critical condition. The MCSO Investigations Division has been called in to conduct an investigation.
