News outlets across metro Detroit are getting wind of rumors that Oakland University is in “serious talks” to buy the Palace of Auburn Hills.
The Detroit News cited an anonymous source with knowledge of the negotiations and broke the story Friday.
The former home of the Detroit Pistons and countless concert events, the Palace closed just over a year ago as the Pistons moved downtown to Little Caesars Arena.
And while the prospect of acquiring the venue may be interesting, OU officials have not confirmed the talks and say they are just rumors. Oakland University director of media relations Brian Bierley told the Gazette, “It is an interesting rumor, but I am not aware of any serious talks by Oakland University to purchase The Palace of Auburn Hills.”
WDIV Click on Detroit contacted the Oakland University basketball program, the Pistons organization, Oakland County development officials, and the city of Auburn Hills – all had no comment or said they were unaware of the deal.
