Zap Zone Expanding By 8,000 In June To Add More Attractions

Zap Zone, located at 43680 Van Dyke in Sterling Heights and owned by Curt Drouillard, continues to do so well that it is adding 8,000 square feet to its 38,000 square foot complex due to the addition of new attractions for people of all ages.

Zap Zone features crazy fun things like laser tag, bumper cars, glow golf, jump zone, mini bowling, a play zone, time freak, cannon blaster, a huge arcade featuring the newest videos, and redemption games. Zap Zone specializes in birthday parties, fundraisers, field trips, college group outings, church outings, corporate outings, overnight lock-ins, and complete building rentals. Drouillard says the new attractions in the upcoming addition are going to be kept secret for now.

There are eight Zap Zone locations in Michigan, including Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti, Brighton, Canton, Farmington, Lansing, Taylor, Utica/Sterling Heights, and Waterford, plus two locations in Windsor, Canada. Although each is independently owned, each location charges the same and buys as a group to save money on new attractions.

Drouillard had been in the arcade business for 25 years when he was approached in 2003 about becoming a part of the Zap Zone Fun Center business. After some serious thought he decided to jump on board, and since then he has expanded to his growing location in Sterling Heights and now has 25 employees.

Zap Zone sells hot dogs, nachos, chips, pop, pretzels, cotton candy, and slushies, and has plenty of tables for friends and families to relax in between games. There are also private rooms for parties that are catered by Jet’s Pizza. All food must be purchased through Zap Zone with the exception of cakes for parties.

“Zap Zone is very proud to be a positive part of the local communities we serve,” says Drouillard. “We do fundraisers and give hundreds of free parties as donations to help all kinds of organizations raise money for their causes. We also proudly support March reading month by offering schools free bookmarks that work as free passes to all students that read five books in March. We’ve also hosted fun runs for schools by giving free passes to those that participate to support their school.”

“I love seeing families have fun together and it’s a clean, safe, alcohol-free atmosphere. We’ve had people come in for fun from ages four through eighty, and recently hosted a hilarious birthday party for someone that turned 75. And kids love our mascot ZZ. Laser Tag is always our hottest attraction, followed by bumper cars, and glow golf. Trampolines may be added to some locations. We love hosting corporate lock-ins, especially on Year’s Eve, which is our biggest one. But we do host another 20 per year for Boy Scouts, high school bands, elementary schools, etc.”

Zap Zone is open Monday through Thursday from 4 to 9 pm, Friday 1 to Midnight, Saturday 11am, to Midnight and Sunday Noon to 10 pm during the winter months. Summer hours are Monday through Thursday Noon to 11 pm, Friday Noon to Midnight, Saturday Noon to Midnight, and Sunday Noon to 10 pm.
